Eclipse Downlight Frequently Asked Questions

At Sunco, we launch new products pretty regularly, but every now and then we drop something so new that there’s hardly anything else like it on the market. This time, that something is the Eclipse Downlight.

With the Eclipse being such a fresh product, we know that some of our customers might have some questions regarding applications and specs. To offer as much clarity as we can, here is a list of some of our most frequently asked questions about our all-new Eclipse Downlight.

What is the eclipse downlight?

The eclipse downlight is a recessed slim that sits flush against your ceiling. Its halo-like design is modern and unique, taking a stylish approach to traditional recessed light.

Does it get hot while in use?

Nope! The Eclipse is an LED, like most of our other products. LED lights are equipped with heat sinks so that the minimum heat generated will be released into the surrounding environment. This keeps the fixture cool and safe to touch during operation.

Is the Eclipse Downlight dimmable?

Yes! The Eclipse Light is fully dimmable with most standard LED-compatible dimmer switches. You can see the full list of compatible dimmer switches here.

Does it provide enough brightness for a main light source?

Yes, the eclipse downlight can be used as the main source of light for any room where you’d normally put recessed lighting. In fact, the Eclipse is technically brighter than our smooth and baffled trimmed slims—operating with 900 lumens rather than 850 lumens.

Where can I install it?

Eclipse lights are great for bedrooms, hallways, accent walls, living rooms, modern offices, or anywhere you'd like to add a modern and cool aesthetic.

What color temperatures does it offer?

Eclipse Downlights are CCT selectable! Choose from:

  • 2700K (Warm White)

  • 3000K (Soft White)

  • 4000K (Cool White)

  • 5000K (Daylight)

  • 6000K (Cool Daylight)

Do I need a recessed can for your Eclipse Downlight?

No. Just like our other slims, you won't need a recessed can to install the Eclipse.

What are some of the notable specs for the Eclipse?

The eclipse downlight has a beam angle of 90°, making it perfect for overhead lighting.  It is Damp Rated and designed to perform reliably, even in moisture-prone areas like bathrooms and kitchens. The eclipse operates with a CRI of 80+ and runs at 14W.

Will this light be safe if installed against insulation?

Sunco's Slim Downlights are IC rated, meaning they are thermally protected and won’t overheat or ignite surrounding insulation in the roof or overhead joist space. Both the light and its junction box are safe for direct contact with ceiling insulation, so no issues there.

Do I need to wear my eclipse glasses around this downlight?

Nah, you won’t need to break out those funky looking goggles for this eclipse. It's totally safe to look at, which is good because you’re going to want to look at this light. It’s so pretty.
