Top Lighting Trends Contractors Are Watching in 2025

If you’re planning a home update this year, lighting should be at the top of your list. It’s one of the most impactful (and often overlooked) elements of design—and contractors are paying close attention to what’s trending in 2025.

We’ve pulled together the top lighting trends pros are watching (and installing) this year.

1. The Eclipse Downlight from Sunco

Let’s start with something more concrete than a concept, but rather, a hot new product on the market: The Sunco Eclipse Downlight. This light is a unique blend of function and style and is a new addition to the trim styles offered by traditional lighting retailers.

Contractors love the Eclipse Downlight because of it’s desirable features such as:

  • Slim profile: Fits into tight ceiling spaces, making it perfect for remodels and new builds alike.

  • Selectable color temperature: Want cozy warm light for the living room and cool white for the kitchen? You got it.

  • Dimmable + IC-rated: It’s safe to install with insulation and compatible with most dimmers—no flicker issues here.

  • Aesthetic Appeal: What can we say? It’s a good-looking light!

If you're a contractor, this product will be an excellent addition to what you can offer our clients.

2. Tunable White Light Is Taking Over

“Warm or cool light?” is becoming an outdated question. In 2025, the answer is both.

Tunable white light lets users shift between a warm glow to a crisp, energizing daylight tone. More and more fixtures are offering this feature, which can often be controlled via app or voice assistant, much like RGB smart lights.

3. Integrated Smart Lighting That Actually Works

Smart lighting isn’t new by any means, but every year it gets smarter and smarter. In 2025, integrated smart lighting is smoother, faster, and more integrated than it’s ever been. Often these fixtures come with built-in Wi-Fi or Bluetoothno hub requiredand compatibility with Alexa, Google Assistant, and Apple HomeKit is pretty much a given.

Contractors are seeing more requests for:

  • Voice control lighting

  • Motion-activated pathway lights (especially in hallways or under cabinets)

  • Schedule-based lighting that mimics natural light patterns (think, dusk to dawn or smart solar)

Pro tip: Pick smart lights from brands that update firmware regularly. It keeps everything running smoothly long-term.

4. Indoor Farming with Grow Lights

Controlled environment agriculture (CEA) is making a comeback, after the rise in produce prices. More and more folks are opting to grow their own vegetables and spices. While some contractors have noted that they are seeing a large number of clients asking for greenhouses, many are also moving toward purchasing grow lights to make use of their indoor spaces.

Using a grow light isn’t an uncommon practice, but the real change has been the increased demand. In fact, according to a study done by Garden Pals, 42% of Americans have started growing their own produce. That number is up by almost double, compared to 25% back in 2018.

5. Sustainable Lighting That Doesn’t Compromise Style

Sustainability isn’t a buzzword anymore—it’s just how people expect things to be made, and lighting is no exception. LED fixtures carry a serious lifespan (we’re talking 20,000+ hours), and they’re often recyclable or made from recycled materials. LEDs also tend to be made with low-toxicity manufacturing processes, which has become a new standard embraced for the development of less harmful materials and chemicals that are safer for both the environment and consumers.

Sustainable lighting became “trendy” with the widespread adoption of energy-efficient technologies like LEDs, which started becoming popular in schools, offices, and hospitals in the early 2010s. Prior to this, incandescent bulbs, while common, were notoriously inefficient. Unfortunately, LEDs weren’t made to be style-forward, choosing function over fashion.

But here’s the thing about modern sustainability: these fixtures aren’t just green, they’re gorgeous. If you check any major lighting retailer that primarily sells LEDs, you should find a wide variety of stylish fixtures, bulbs, and lamps. Style doesn’t suffer in the name of sustainability anymore.

Contractors Agree

In 2025, people expect more from their homes—comfort, efficiency, tech, and style—and lighting is one of the easiest ways to deliver all four. And if you haven’t already checked out the Sunco Eclipse Downlight, go do that. It’s one of those products that makes you wonder why all lights aren’t made this way.
